DVS Equipment
The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) was created to improve the safety of all road users, particularly Vulnerable Road Users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
Between 2015 and 2017, HGVs were disproportionately involved in fatal collisions with people cycling (63%) and walking (25%) on London’s streets.
If you have a vehicle over 12 tonnes and are operating in Greater London, you will need a permit. The minimum requirements for DVS is currently 1 star, if you meet the guidelines then you will automatically be granted a permit. However, there are few vehicles that will meet this. If your vehicle does not, then you can still be eligible for a permit by applying for the Safe System. The Safe System is a specification, similar to that of FORS Silver and CLOCS, that require devices for indirect vision (cameras, sensors and audible alarms) to be fitted to the vehicle in order to improve driver visibility.
